A work of speculative fiction. The Department of Strategic Continuity is not a real government agency, and this is not a government website. About this project

Research Divisions

The Department's research is carried out by five divisions, each with a distinct mission, staff and set of programs. Divisions report to the Secretary through the Chief Scientist.

OAAI

Office of Advanced Artificial Intelligence

Evaluates frontier AI systems, maps how critical infrastructure depends on them, and assesses technological risk. Runs the Frontier System Evaluation Program and provides computational modeling support across the Department, including for ICSM and NCRP.

OSRA

Office of Strategic Risk Assessment

Owns the Integrated Civilizational Systems Model (ICSM) and issues the Civilizational Systems Outlook series. Studies how failures propagate between energy, food, finance, supply chains, governance and other systems. Runs the Integrated Systems Modeling Program.

DNC

Directorate of Neural Continuity

Conducts the Department’s research in computational neuroscience, connectomics and cognitive preservation. Leads the Neural Continuity Research Program and stewards the Neural Data Preservation Framework, under review of every protocol by the Research Ethics Review Board.

CIA-DSC

Continuity Infrastructure Administration

Builds and operates the Department’s three Continuity Research Facilities in southern Nevada, the Colorado Front Range and interior Alaska. Leads the Continuity Infrastructure Initiative and the Long-Duration Information Preservation Program, including power, cooling and archival engineering.

OLSR

Office of Long-Term Systems Research

Studies forecasting methodology, decision-making under deep uncertainty, multi-decade continuity planning and the design of long-lived institutions. Runs the Long-Term Forecasting Program and contributes to the Department’s work on identity, preservation and systemic risk.
